While it is presently preferred to use extracts of male axillary secretions as said portions, it is theorized that the effective pheromonal component of the axillary secretions may be one or more of the androgen steroids: androstenol, androstenone, dehydroepiandrosterone, androstadienol, androstadienone, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHAS), androsterone sulfate (AS), and natural derivatives thereof. It is further anticipated that the burnt heavy axillary-like odor component which elutes at about 50 minutes as shown on the FID response curve of FIG. 3B may also exhibit pheromonal activity.
